How to Get to Fethiye: Your Starting Point for the Lycian Way
The Lycian Way begins in Fethiye - or more accurately, in the hills above it. Getting there is the first logistical challenge of the trip, and it is worth planning properly.
Flying In: Which Airport?
The closest airport is Dalaman (DLM), about 50 kilometres from Fethiye. Most international flights to this region land here.
From Dalaman Airport to Fethiye you have three options:
Shuttle: The easiest option. Havas buses meet most flights and go directly to Fethiye town centre. Journey time around 45-60 minutes. Book in advance or look for desks in arrivals.
Taxi: More expensive but flexible, especially useful arriving late or with heavy gear. Agree on a price before you get in.
Public bus: The cheapest option but more complicated - get to Dalaman town first, then take a dolmus toward Fethiye. Manageable if you are patient.
The Other Option: Antalya Airport
If hiking east to west (finishing in Fethiye rather than starting there), fly into Antalya (AYT) instead. It is a larger hub with more connections. From Antalya to Fethiye by bus takes 4-5 hours and costs very little.
Getting to the Trailhead
Fethiye is not the start of the trail - the official starting point is in the hills above the city, near Ovacik or via Kayakoy. From Fethiye town centre, take a dolmus (shared minibus) toward Ovacik or Kayakoy. A taxi from Fethiye to the trailhead takes about 20 minutes.
Arriving in Fethiye
Fethiye is a genuine working town - not just a tourist resort. It has a market, supermarkets, outdoor shops, pharmacies, and accommodation for every budget.
Spend a night here before you start. It gives you time to pick up last-minute supplies, get a proper meal, and check your gear before what lies ahead.
