500+ km on rocky limestone paths under a Mediterranean sun. Get your kit right before you start.
Trail runners with a rock plate, or lightweight hiking boots. The limestone path is unforgiving on thin soles. Break them in before you go — blisters ruin hikes.
Some stages have no reliable water for 15+ km. Carry a squeeze filter (Sawyer or Katadyn) to refill from springs. Never assume water will be where you expect it.
A wide-brimmed hat and SPF 50 sunscreen are not optional. Mediterranean sun on exposed limestone at 35C can incapacitate unprepared hikers within hours.
Download the route on Gaia GPS or Maps.me before setting out. Mobile signal disappears on remote headlands. Bring a 10,000mAh powerbank — charging spots are rare.
If camping, your tent must be freestanding. Most of the terrain is limestone — you cannot drive pegs into rock. A good 3-season bag, sleeping pad, and you are set.
Every extra kilogram costs you energy over 500km. Leave the heavy boots, cotton clothing, and more than 2-3 days of food at home. Villages resupply you along the way.
