How to Plan Your Lycian Way Hike

The Lycian Way stretches over 500 km along Turkey's Mediterranean coast, from Fethiye to Antalya, passing through 30 distinct stages. Planning the right itinerary depends on your available time, fitness level, and preferred style of travel.

How many days do you need?

The full route takes 25-30 days for fit hikers. Most people walk selected sections: 7 days covers the dramatic western stages around Fethiye and Kas; 14 days allows you to reach Finike and Cape Gelidonya lighthouse; the full route takes experienced hikers around 25 days.

Best time to hike

Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are ideal. Summer temperatures exceed 40C on exposed limestone. Winter hiking is possible but some pensions close.

Fitness levels explained

Beginner: Up to 12 km/day, gentle stages. Moderate: 15-20 km/day, most classic stages. Experienced: 20+ km/day, harder headland and summit stages.
