Stage Guide

Everything you need to know before you walk

Leaving Ovacık, the trail immediately gains altitude on a rocky ridge path with extraordinary views back toward Fethiye and the Blue Lagoon of Ölüdeniz. This is one of the most photographed viewpoints on the entire Lycian Way — take the time to stop and look behind you as you climb.

The ridge walk continues above the cliffs of Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi), one of Turkey's most famous gorges. The valley is only accessible by boat or a dangerous scramble, but from the trail above you can peer straight down into the turquoise cove far below. In April and May, the slopes are covered in wildflowers.

The descent to Faralya is steep but well-marked. The village sits on a ledge above the coast with spectacular views toward Kabak. Several family-run pansiyons offer simple, generous meals — try the village-produced olive oil. Faralya is also famous for its organic honey.

Key advice: This stage has limited shade on the ridge section. Start by 7AM in summer. The descent to Faralya involves loose stones — trekking poles are useful here.
