The ascent from Demre through Belören to the Byzantine church at Alakilise is one of the quieter pleasures of the Lycian Way. The ruins of Alakilise — a substantial basilica with mosaic floors — sit in an olive grove at the top of the climb. Few visitors reach it overland.
The descent through citrus groves to Finike is wonderfully fragrant in spring — orange and lemon blossom fills the air for several kilometres. Finike is a working harbour town without the tourist polish of Kaş or Olympos, but it has everything a hiker needs.
